Wo-He-Lo – Camp Fire Girls

Wo-He-Lo - Camp Fire Girls cemetery symbolCamp Fire Girls began in 1910 as a youth development organization for girls. Today the organization has both boys and girls and is called Camp Fire USA. Boys were first included in 1975.

The Camp Fire greeting “Wo-He-Lo” comes from the first two letters of the words, work, health and love.

Photo: from the grave marker of Edwin T. Larson (1876-1954) and Mabel L.E. Larson (1880-1940), Fairmount Cemetery, Denver, Colorado. The symbol is above Mabel’s name.

I love it. I would love this symbol on my grave some day. I have been a member now almost 50 years and I am impressed it was so important to someone else to place this original symbol on one’s grave.

I was in Campfire girls and still have my vest with the beads on it. I went to campfire camp and remember the the big bonfire with what seemed like 100 girls sitting in the bleachers in the woods. It was so much fun! This is great site and tribute to Edwin and Mabel.

I like it. My college, East Central Community College, in Decstur, MS has the motto of, Wo-He-Lo, just to let you all know. I feel like I am getting a quality education, and it is interesting to know what the saying means.
